FINALLY: Let’s Celebrate Liz Cheney’s Political Funeral Today

OPINION | This article contains commentary that reflects the author's opinion.

Liz Cheney betrayed her constituents and the Republican Party by siding with the Democrats and stabbing Donald Trump in the back as she voted for his unwarranted impeachment.

Making matters worse, Cheney teamed up with Nancy Pelosi and the Democrats’ witch hunt known as the January 6 Committee to investigate the riot at the U.S. Capitol in January 2020. She claims Trump “engaged in the most serious misconduct of any president in the history of our nation.”

Cheney’s political future in the Republican Party likely ends today as GOP voters head to the polls.

Polls indicate that Cheney is trailing her GOP challenger Harriet Hageman by more than 20%. 52% of likely primary voters in the state said they support Harriet Hageman. Trump has also endorsed Hageman as the right person for the office.

Only 30% showed support for Cheney, according to a Mason-Dixon Polling & Strategy survey. This poll was conducted between July 7-11 among 1,100 likely voters.

🚨 POLL: Should Liz Cheney be kicked out of the GOP?
YES 👍 or NO 👎

Even the anti-Trump network CNN predicts Cheney is in trouble.

Editor-at-large Chris Cillizza said, “Cheney looks likely to lose — and she knows it. What she also knows is that, at least in her mind, this isn’t the end of her political career.”

Famed Harvard law professor Alan Dershowitz says Cheney will switch political parties and run again as a Democrat.

Dershowitz said, “I think, as a Democrat, I think she will join the Democratic Party, and maybe even run for office as a Democrat. Her father was a very, very different person, and children should not be held responsible for their parents or parents with their job,” Dershowitz said.

Cheney has continued to push her anti-Trump views. She has also said she isn’t sure that she was support a possible presidential run by popular conservative and Florida Governor Ron DeSantis.

“Certainly, it’s clear if you look at Judge Carter’s opinion,” Cheney told CNN. “He believes that it’s more likely than not that President Trump committed at least two federal crimes. I think we certainly, we have not decided yet as a committee for going to make criminal referrals, but that’s something we’re looking at.”

CNN anchor Jake Tapper responded, “I know Judge Carter’s opinion. It looks like crimes were committed. Your fellow Republican Adam Kinzinger, on the committee, told CNN on Friday the committee has proven Donald Trump broke the law.”

“What’s your personal opinion? Do you think trump broke the law?” Tapper asked.

Cheney said, “I think that Donald Trump, the violation of his oath of office, the violation of the Constitution, he engaged in the most serious misconduct of any president in the history of our nation.”

“I think that, as I said, the committee has not decided yet whether or not will make criminal referrals,” Cheney continued. “That is something we take very seriously. I would also say the Department of Justice certainly is focused on what we see publicly.”

“There is no doubt in my mind that the president of the United States is unfit for further office,” she added. “Any man who would conduct themselves, or women, themselves the way they did to overturn an election and stay in power must never again be anywhere near the Oval Office.”

If Cheney loses, Hageman would still need to race against likely Democratic candidate Lynnette Grey Bull as well as Constitution Party candidate Marissa Selvig and independent Casey Hardison.

However, in the red state of Wyoming, the winner of the primary race will likely win the state’s congressional seat.
